Rams target Blades raid

Sky Sports News understands Derby are closing in on the signing of Claude Davis.

Sky Sports News understands Derby are closing in on the signing of Sheffield United defender Claude Davis.

Derby boss Billy Davies has made the Jamaican defender one of his top targets as he plans for life back in the top flight.

Davis played under Davies at Preston and the Scot is keen to work with him again.

United are reluctant to lose Davis, but accept that they may lose players because of their relegation from the Premier League.

Derby are believed to be willing to pay £3million to land the tall central defender.

Meanwhile, Davies has moved to clear up the confusion regarding reports over David Kelly.

Davies says some of his comments over Kelly were misquoted and he has put the record straight.

"At no stage was I critical about any club or individual when commenting on David Kelly," Davies told the club's official website.

"I actually described the situation as being pathetic and I'm disappointed that this seems to have been misreported in some elements of the national media."
