Montgomery set to be fit

Sheffield United's Nick Montgomery hopes to be fit for the start of the new season.

Sheffield United's Nick Montgomery hopes to be fit for the start of the new season.

The 25-year-old midfielder has been sidelined with a dislocated shoulder he sustained against Aston Villa in the penultimate match of last season and has undergone surgery to have seven pins inserted into the joint.

"I can't do contact work for about three to four weeks, although I've done some running and ball work," he told the club's website.

"I'll miss most of the pre-season games, which is frustrating. It's been painful over the summer but the rehabilitation with the physio is going well after the operation.

"I should be back as normal and won't have to catch up on fitness work. I can be back fit, ready and raring to go for the start of the season."
