Ward facing a month on the sidelines

Chesterfield striker Jamie Ward is set to be sidelined for at least a month with a hamstring injury. The 21-year-old suffered the problem in the Spireites' 3-1 Carling Cup defeat to Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. The ex-Torquay striker limped off just after the half-hour mark in the first round tie with the sides level at 1-1.

Unfortunate

"It is unfortunate for Jamie after he missed much of the second half of last season through injury," said Chesterfield manager Lee Richardson. "His absence is a blow, but it gives someone else an opportunity to show what they can do over the next few weeks." The injury has also forced Ward to withdraw from the Northern Ireland Under 21 squad to face Finland next week. But the club have moved quickly to fill the void by taking Sheffield United's Nicky Travis on loan until 31st December. The 20-year-old has been a reserve team regular at Bramall Lane and can play up front, in midfield or defence. Richardson told the club's website: "We have been keeping an eye on Nicky Travis and the chance for him to join is quite timely in view of our current situation as he can be used in a number of positions."
