Young admits World Cup fears

Luke Young has admitted he is unlikely to be fit for this summer's World Cup finals.

Charlton defender Luke Young has admitted he is unlikely to be fit for this summer's World Cup finals.

Young is struggling with an ankle injury he picked up against West Ham last weekend.

The 26-year-old, who now has his leg in a protective cast, is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Young was expected to make Sven Goran Eriksson's squad as back-up to Gary Neville after covering for the Manchester United man when he missed some World Cup qualifiers through injury.

The former Tottenham man now fears the worst over his World Cup chances.

"It will probably be next season," Young told the Daily Star.

"I haven't had an operation but it doesn't look good."

The news is a blow for Eriksson as the deadline for naming his squad for Germany draws ever closer.
