COURTOIS WANTS PROMISE FULFILLED

WEST HAM new boy Laurent Courtois is a little frustrated with a lack of first team action at Upton Park, but has been promised an appearance against Newcastle United on Sunday.

The French midfielder is settling in well with the East Londoners, even though the club find themselves at the foot of The Premiership table.

"I notified Glenn Roeder it was out of the question to sign if I would not play," said the former Toulouse star.

"So he told me he will let me play, whatever could happen.

"So I am waiting for my turn."

Courtois revealed he has been guaranteed a place against Newcastle, by former Toon player Roeder, and is impressed by the stature of his new club.

"When I came onto the pitch against Liverpool, it will remain my best memory," he told France Football.

"I was just relegated with Toulouse, then I was on the pitch at Anfield, playing against Michael Owen!

"In France, people think West Ham is an ordinary club, but everything is ten times bigger than what I could see in France.

"The training sessions are much more interesting than what I could have in Toulouse.

"And it is more convivial."
