West Ham boss Alan Pardew has explained Teddy Sheringham's future role.
West Ham manager Alan Pardew has insisted that veteran striker Teddy Sheringham will not be offered a coaching role within the club.Sheringham turns 40 in April, but is expected to stay at Upton Park for at least one more season.
Pardew accepts that the forward's experience is a great asset for everyone at the club to draw on, but has played down recent speculation suggesting that he will become involved in a coaching capacity.
"He knows I want him to stay on, but it will be a playing contract only," he stressed.
"My staff are terrific and it would be unfair on them to put Ted into any of their roles, but we will continue to feed off him."
Pardew also paid tribute to Marlon Harewood, who continued his fine form with two goals in Monday's 3-0 victory over Birmingham.
"In our last few games, one centre half went home at half time and another one got taken off, which says something about the havoc he is causing," he praised.
"Marlon will do a job against anyone. He can do that role on the right wing as well and is very effective there. The full back can't go anywhere because he has to be concerned by him."
