Yossi makes Croatia pledge

Israel captain Yossi Benayoun has vowed to be fit for Wednesday.

Israel captain Yossi Benayoun has vowed to be fit for Wednesday's crucial European Championship qualifier against Croatia.

The classy West Ham schemer suffered a knee injury against Middlesbrough at the weekend and further scans have revealed a minor ligament tear.

However, with Israel still very much in with a chance of securing qualification, they are currently level on points with Croatia, England and Macedonia, Benayoun has pledged to play through the pain barrier.

"This will not prevent me from playing," said Benayoun.

"There is no chance I will miss this match, especially against a side which so far is the best in the group."

"On paper, the Croats are better than us, solid at the back, excellent players with a lot more experience.

"We will have to be beyond our best in order to win. Hopefully, at home with the support of our fans, we could force them to have an off-day and win."
