The Gills boss is drawing up his list of potential targets and he has admitted that Watford's Neil Cox, Ian Cox (pictured) of Burnley and Bradford's Andy Myers are all on it.
"I am interested in them," he told the club's official website.
"We're looking at defensive players at the moment more than anything.
"They are all good players otherwise we wouldn't be looking at them.
"We need to strengthen defensively because we've only really got two out and out central defenders."
All are available on free transfers and Gillingham are hoping to persuade all of them that their futures lie in Kent.
