It is understood the Owls made an enquiry for Riordan as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.
However, Wednesday were put off by Celtic's £1million valuation of the versatile attacker.
Riordan's future at Celtic has been the subject of intense speculation with the player frustrated with his lack of first-team opportunities.
The 24-year-old has admitted he may have to consider his options if he does establish himself in Gordon Strachan's side this season.
Celtic have a wealth of attacking options at Parkhead and Riordan found himself playing a bit-part role for most of last term.
Wednesday boss Brian Laws was keen to offer Riordan an escape route out of Glasgow, but they unable to meet Celtic's price-tag for the player.
It now seems Riordan will stay at Celtic unless any interested party is willing to meet the Scottish's side £1million valuation of the former Hibernian star.
