City keeper wants contract

Chris Weale is hoping he can secure a long-term contract with Bristol City.

Weale hopes for long-term deal at Ashton Gate

Chris Weale is hoping he can secure a long-term contract with Bristol City. The goalkeeper is currently on a month-to-month deal at Ashton Gate and was loaned out to Hereford United at the start of the season. But an injury to Adriano Basso prompted Weale's recall and he produced a starring role in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Blackpool. Weale, who joined City last summer from Yeovil Town, is now looking to resolve his future with the Championship club. "I would obviously like to get my contract sorted out as soon as possible," said Weale in the Daily Star.

Right time

"However, all I can do is do my best out on the pitch whenever I get a chance to play and train hard when I don't." Robins boss Gary Johnson admits he is keen to hand Weale a contract as the keeper looks to prove his fitness after injuries wrecked his first season at the club. Johnson said: "Displays like that will make it easier for me to offer him a new contract. I worked with him for four years at Yeovil, so I know what he can do. "I want to give him a proper contract, but it has to be the right time."
