Championship duo chase Vale striker

Scunthorpe boss Nigel Adkins remains hopeful he will pip Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday for the signature of Port Vale striker Akpo Sodje. The powerful forward is set to leave Vale Park by the end of the week with Scunthorpe and Wednesday both vying for his services. Both clubs have had offers for the 27-year-old turned down, but Adkins admits the striker would be a great addition to his squad at Glanford Park. "He is someone we have quietly tracked throughout the close season," Adkins told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

Complement

"He is a big, strong front man who is also very mobile and will complement the three strikers we already have here at Glanford Park." Port Vale chairman Bill Bratt has already hinted that Sodje, who has scored 16 goals in 53 appearances for Vale, will leave the club by the end of the week. "The board would like to keep the player, but we have to do what's best for the club overall," said Bratt. "If a player wants to go and is out of contract at the end of the season then we might have to think about it."
