HUGHES WILL STAY PUT

LEE HUGHES is staying at West Brom, despite Birmingham`s very clear intention to bring him across the Midlands to St Andrews.

Giuseppe Pagliara told the official Baggies website: "I would be surprised if he would be interested in going to Birmingham, even though they have done better than Albion in the last couple of seasons.

"It`s well known that he has already been attracting interest from several Premiership clubs and I know nothing about an offer from Birmingham," he added. "Joining them would hardly be a major step up.

"Lee has two years to run on his contract and he intends to see them out. He is a lifelong Albion fan, and so are his family, and that counts for a lot."

Trevor Francis failed with an offer of Dele Adebola and Paul Furlong for the former Kidderminster hot-shot, and their second bid, £3 million in cash, was also flatly refused by West Brom.

Meanwhile, Port Vale boss Brian Horton has rubbished speculation linking defender Sagi Burton with a move to The Hawthorns.
