Gulls bring in four

Torquay United have enjoyed a hectic day in the transfer market after signing four new players.

Gulls boss Ian Atkins has brought in goalkeeping duo Nathan Abbey (pictured) and Martin Horsell, midfielder Carl Motteram and striker Chris McPhee.

Abbey, who was latterly with Bristol City, has agreed terms at Plainmoor and will link up with his new team-mates for training on Friday.

He is joined in the goalkeeping ranks by Horsell, who was formerly a trainee at Atkins' old side Bristol Rovers.

Motteram has signed a one-year contract with the League Two outfit after leaving Birmingham City at the end of last season.

The activity was completed by the capture of McPhee after the striker had been released by Brighton & Hove Albion.

McPhee had recently trained with Swindon Town, where he spent the close of last season on loan, but he has plumped for a contract with Torquay.
