City trial Celtic winger

Birmingham City have taken Celtic winger Ross Wallace on trial for a week.

Birmingham City have taken Celtic winger Ross Wallace on trial for a week.

Manager Steve Bruce reluctantly agreed to sell Jermaine Pennant to Liverpool for £6.7 million and has been looking to strengthen the Blues' squad since.

He has already bemoaned the lack of affordable English talent available and has now turned his attentions north of the border.

Wallace is a product of The Bhoys' youth system and a natural wide man.

He has made 48 appearances for the club and is more a provider than a goal-scorer, having scored four goals in that time.

The 21-year-old showed his versatility filling in as a left back at Celtic Park in that time, but boss Gordon Strachan looks to be trying to offload the flanker to the newly-demoted Championship club.

Wallace arrived at St Andrews on Tuesday and will be anxious to win a contract and play some regular first team football in the coming season.
