Blues stopper eyes move

Birmingham defender Marcos Painter is hoping to secure a loan move in the near future.

Birmingham defender Marcos Painter is hoping to secure a loan move in the near future.

Brighton have already failed with an approach for Painter, but the young stopper is hoping he could soon be given the chance to play on loan somewhere.

"The first I heard of the Brighton thing was when my mum read about it," the defender told the Birmingham Mail.

"The manager doesn't really talk to you about things like that unless he wants you to go.

"At the time I was included in our squads. Like anyone, I want to play first team football.

"I've played for the reserves for three years now and I can handle that football.

"To improve I need to be in somebody's side. You look around at what other younger players are doing in the game, and I'd like to be in the same situation.

"Although I'm not comparing myself to him, Wayne Rooney has been to the European Championship and World Cup.

"You don't want to be stuck in the reserves, you want to be out there experiencing big games and playing your part."
