Kilkenny coup for Latics

Oldham Athletic have completed the noticeable loan capture of Neil Kilkenny.

Oldham Athletic have completed the noticeable loan capture of Neil Kilkenny from Birmingham City.

The 21-year-old midfield schemer was courted by a number of Championship clubs but has opted to move to Boundary Park, where he enjoyed a similar loan stint back in 2004/05.

During his first sojourn in the North West, Kilkenny established himself as a firm fans' favourite and the former Arsenal starlet will remain at Oldham until 1st January.

Kilkenny is highly thought of at St Andrews but fell down Steve Bruce's midfield pecking order last season, in making just two starts as Birmingham won promotion from the Championship.

In the 2005/06 campaign, in the Premiership, Kilkenny made 25 appearances and it is such experience Latics boss John Sheridan will hope to drill into as he plots a promotion of his own.
