Murphy makes Saddlers plea

On-loan keeper Joe Murphy says he is keen to sign a permanent deal at Walsall.

Walsall's on-loan goalkeeper Joe Murphy says he is keen to sign a permanent deal for Paul Merson's side.

The Sunderland youngster moved to the League One outfit in October, and has already had his stay extended once after impressing at the Bescot Stadium.

His current loan deal expires in January, but after gaining a taste for first team football Murphy says he is now keen to leave The Black Cats.

"I've signed until January 21 - Chesterfield is my last game I think and I will just get on with it until then. But would I like to stay? Definitely," Murphy told the Wolverhampton Express and Star.

"I've been sat on benches for three or four years and it's nice to get back playing on a regular basis.

"I feel happy here, but it is not for me to say what Walsall should do. I am only on loan and the club have two other keepers who are on full contracts.

"My contract at Sunderland is only until the summer and hopefully in January my performances here will have done enough to attract some interest."
