Black Cats close on Hysen

Sweden international Tobias Hysen is closing on his move to Sunderland.

Tobias Hysen is closing on his move to Sunderland, while The Black Cats have handed new contracts to Neill Collins and Andy Welsh.

Swedish winger Hysen has been given permission by his club Djurgardens to discuss a switch to the struggling Championship club.

Djurgardens chairman Bo Lundquist admits the club are happy to allow the Sweden international to move to The Stadium of Light.

"We are pleased," Lunquist told Sportbladet.

"We haven't agreed about all the details, there are some clauses to consider, but we are expecting that, otherwise there would be no point in letting him travel."

Meanwhile, Niall Quinn has secured the futures of Collins and Welsh, whose previous deals were due to expire next summer.

Both players are now contracted to Sunderland until 2009 and manager/chairman Quinn was happy to reward the duo with new deals.

Quinn told the club's official website: "Yet again I'm delighted to tie up two young players, who I hope both have a leading role to play in the future of this football club.

"But the hard work for them both starts now. They have worked hard to get these contracts, but they now have an opportunity to play their part in the overall progress of the club."
