LAWS EYES RAMS KEEPER

FOLLOWING his brief flirtation with Champions League finalists Valencia, goalkeeper Gerard Doherty will now attempt to earn a contract with Scunthorpe.

The 19-year-old was recently released by Derby County and was offered a trial with the La Liga outfit amidst reports that Villarreal had also expressed an interest in taking a look at what he had to offer, although it would seem that the opportunity came a little too early in his fledgling career.

Doherty will now try and impress Glanford Park chief Brian Laws, who is keen to provide some competition for Tommy Evans - The Iron's current custodian of the number one jersey.

"We will take him with us when we get to the Army barracks and see what he does," said the former Grimsby boss.

"He is a good little player who has a lot of potential."
