RAMS THUMPING DOES NOT DETER GRENET

FRANCOIS GRENET has revealed that watching Derby County's 5-1 thumping by Middlesbrough has not put him off making the move to Pride Park.

Although The Rams have still to agree a fee with Bordeaux, the full back is already making plans for his new life in England, and is pleased to be leaving Girondins.

"It is now completely official," he stated. "I am not any more Bordelais. I signed a four-year contract with Derby County.

"I believe the amount of the transfer fee lies between 25 and 30 million francs (£2.5m - £2.82m).

"When Derby made their offer at the beginning of the week, I was immediately very interested.

"I went to see Elie Baup and asked him if he planned to play me in the team, or I was to continue to be confined to a substitute's role.

"He answered me frankly, that he thought I functioned rather well like that, with David Jemmali. I understand this but want to play."

The Frenchman saw a proposed move to Middlesbrough collapse during the close season but he is confident there will be no problems this time around.

"A new life starts here in England," he wrote on his personal website.

"It is a small sympathetic, rather typical city and seems a little less industrial than Middlesbrough.

"I am, of course, in a hotel but I hope to find a house next week.

"The ground is very new and they are building a new training complex. The facilities are a little decayed, for the moment, but this is not without charm.

"As for the club, we are not in a very good position at the moment because we are in the relegation zone.

"The match on Saturday saw Derby suffer a 5-1 defeat to Middlesbrough. They made a solid match until the break, when the score was goalless.

"But there is a beautiful ambiance and the players and the fans have a fondness for each other.

"In any case, there is potential in this team. The objective is simple - to stay in The Premiership.

"It will not be simple but the current problem is especially psychological. New players have arrived, of which I am the last. Luciano Zavagno and Pierre Ducrocq will help me settle in.

"At 26, playing is my top priority. I, therefore, do not regret leaving Bordeaux."
