Rams starlet wanted in Eastern bloc

Derby County starlet Izale McLeod could be set for a move to Eastern Europe with Russian and Ukrainian clubs ready to bid for the youngster.

The 20-year-old Rams striker has been used sparingly by manager George Burley since he took charge at Pride Park - despite his burgeoning reputation.

McLeod is reported to be the target of a number of clubs who are now believed to have made contact with The Rams.

One of the sides is thought to be Russian outfit FC Shinnik - who finished fifth in the Premier League.

It remains to be seen how Derby will react to the interest, but the player's agent admits that McLeod is looking for first team football.

"We are aware of the interest in Izale which has come out of the blue," Gino Culbertson explained to skysports.com.

"However, he is a Derby player and although he has not been involved in the first team in a while, he has scored six goals in six games for the reserves.

"The matter is with the club and the manager as to whether or not he fits into their first team plans, like all young players he just wants first team football

"Naturally we have to give serious thought to any opportunity for him, and consider what is in his best interests.

"The possibility of playing in the Uefa Cup or Champions League is an exciting prospect, but at the moment it is just speculation.

"He is concentrating on playing for Derby County until he is told otherwise."
