Mixed news for Preston

Danny Dichio's red card has been rescinded but Claude Davis must still serve a ban.

Danny Dichio has had his red card against Crystal Palace rescinded but Preston North End team-mate Claude Davis must still serve a suspension.

Both players were sent off during Preston's 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park on Saturday, with Dichio and Davis handed three-match bans.

The Lilywhites felt both dismissals were harsh and appealed to The Football Association in the hope of having referee Steve Tanner's decisions overturned.

The FA have seen fit to rescind Dichio's red card, which had been given for purportedly leading with his arm in a tussle with Clinton Morrison.

But Davis' red card, for catching Dougie Freedman with a raised boot, has not been wiped out, meaning the Jamaican centre half must serve a three-game suspension.

Preston boss Billy Davies was satisfied that Dichio had been cleared but was upset that Davis' sending off remains.

"It is the best we could have hoped for but at the same time I am very disappointed," Davies told the club's official website.

"Having looked at the two incidents again and again I'm still convinced that Claude was harshly dealt with.

"At the same time I am pleased that common sense has prevailed on the other incident and that Danny Dichio can continue to be selected for first team duties."
