MEGSON`S PROBLEMS ACCUMULATE

WEST BROM`S start to the season has been hit with more problems with Gary Megson failing in bids to bring players to the club and Daryl Burgess` foot injury leaving him short of defensive cover.

Megson, who has seen his plans to Ruel Fox to the Black Country postponed indefinitely, hoped to sign another player this week but his £500,000 bid was rebuffed with the club asking for double this amount.

This would have put Albion`s spending over the summer to over £3 million after the signings of Jason Roberts and Derek McInnes.

Meanwhile Burgess, who is currently in his testimonial year at The Hawthorns, broke a bone in his foot in a training collision with Italian winger Max Iezzi and will be out for at least a month.

This leaves Albion woefully short of defensive options and they may look to bring someone in on loan as Larus Sigurdsson will not return from the broken leg he sustained last term for another two months.

Matt Carbon and Tony Butler are currently first choice and Paul Mardon and James Chambers are the only other members in the first team squad who could fulfill this role.
