Saddlers land keeper

Walsall have taken West Brom keeper Joe Murphy on an initial month's loan.

Walsall have taken goalkeeper Joe Murphy on an initial month's loan from Black Country rivals West Bromwich Albion.

The Republic of Ireland international custodian will play with the struggling League One club for four weeks and may have his stay at The Bescot Stadium extended to three months in the near future.

The 23-year-old joins Paul Merson's side after falling down the goalkeeping pecking order at The Hawthorns this season.

The former Tranmere Rovers man has seen his first team opportunities limited by the form of West Brom number one Russell Hoult and the arrival of Polish custodian Tomasz Kuszczak in the summer.

With New Zealand international keeper Mark Paston not fully fit, Murphy will hope to make the most of his time at Walsall to earn some first team action.

Meanwhile, midfielder Simon Osborn has given up his coaching duties to concentrate more on playing matters with Walsall.
