Robson targets Ellington

Bryan Robson wants to link Nathan Ellington and Robert Earnshaw at West Brom.

West Brom manager Bryan Robson will step up his interest in Nathan Ellington and insists he wants the Wigan striker to link up with Robert Earnshaw.

The former Middlesbrough boss is desperate to bolster his misfiring attack and has targeted 24-year-old Ellington, who is refusing to sign a new contract at The JJB Stadium

It had been suggested that Earnshaw, also 24, would be used as a makeweight to tempt Wigan into selling a player who helped fire them into The Premiership last season.

Robson quashed the rumours, and said: "Earnshaw is an important part of the squad - and he knows that.

"He scored 11 goals for us last season. If you go out and try to buy someone who can score 11 in The Premiership it is really difficult."

Ellington's agent Tony Finnegan confirmed West Brom's interest in taking his player to The Hawthorns.

"The chief scout at West Brom (Bobby Hope) has liked Nathan ever since he was at Bristol Rovers four years ago," Finnegan told the West Midlands Express and Star.

"At the time there was a different management, but I can't deny the club are interested in him."
