Stoke star staying put

Darel Russell has dismissed talk that he is looking to quit Stoke City.

Stoke City star Darel Russell has dismissed talk that he is looking to quit The Britannia Stadium.

The 26-year-old has just been named Championship Player of the Month and is a firm crowd favourite with The Potters faithful.

However, his former club Norwich were amongst a clutch of clubs linked with a possible move.

But Russell has wasted little time in pledging his future to Stoke - the club he joined in 2003.

"I have 18 months left on my contract and I am more than happy at Stoke City as things are going so well at present," he said.

"For the first time in my time here the team and the board are showing the same ambition - we are all trying to get promoted."

Russell did confirm that he would look to move back to his roots in the South of England, in the future.

"At some point in my career I would love to move back down south, as that is where my friends and family are, but I am not looking for anything now," he said.

"I am coming in every day and enjoying my time at the club, and that is always good. As long as we are playing good football everything else is secondary.

"It has been a big help playing with Salif Diao in the middle as that takes a lot of pressure and work off me and allows me to do more of what I would like to do.

"It is good to be getting some consistency in my play. In the past it was a bit up and down, but due to age and experience I am starting to be consistent."
