Division Two Round-Up

Plymouth Argyle remain seven points clear at the top of Division Two - this despite being held to a 0-0 draw at home to nine-man Wrexham.

The Pilgrims could not break down their North Wales opponents at Home Park, despite The Dragons losing Craig Morgan and Darren Ferguson for two bookable offences in the second half.

Queens Park Rangers missed the chance to close the gap on Plymouth and extend their gap on third place Bristol City after being held to a 1-1 draw at home to Luton Town.

Paul Furlong had put QPR in front just before the break at Loftus Road before The Hatters earned a point in West London when Enoch Showunmi struck with 14 minutes remaining to keep Luton's chances of reaching the play-offs in sight.

QPR are three points clear in the automatic promotion places after Bristol City lost their third match in a week with a costly 2-1 defeat at Port Vale.

All the goals came in the second half, with Vale sealing victory through Stephen Brooker on 66 minutes before Marc Bridge-Wilkinson doubled their lead on 77 minutes.

Lee Peacock gave The Robins a late consolation but another defeat for the visitors will concern Bristol City manager Danny Wilson.

Swindon Town move up a place to fourth after a 1-1 draw against Barnsley at The County Ground.

Sam Parkin gave The Robins the lead eight minutes in before Barnsley's on-loan man Daniel Nardiello equalised from the penalty spot 11 minutes before the break for The Tykes.

Brighton & Hove Albion drop a place to fifth after a late 2-1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Chris Brunt had put The Owls in front on eight minutes before Brighton drew level through Richard Carpenter six minutes later.

Chris Turner's side stole all three points in the dying stages when Robbie Mustoe scored to give Wednesday a morale-boosting victory.

Bournemouth move into the play-off places after an emphatic 3-0 away win over Rushden & Diamonds.

Brian Stock, James Hayter and Warren Feeney sealed victory for The Cherries at Nene Park, with The Diamonds looking set to struggle after the loss of a number of players on deadline day last Thursday.

Brentford move out of the relegation places following a crucial 2-1 victory at Hartlepool United, who fall out of the play-off positions with the defeat at Victoria Park.

Goals by Jay Tabb two minutes in and Michael Dobson on 33 minutes gave The Bees a vital away win. Adam Boyd scored the consolation for Pools.

Colchester United were held to a 0-0 draw by struggling Peterborough United at Layer Road, with The U's finishing the match with ten men after Wayne Andrews was sent off for violent conduct in the second half.

Stockport County stay in the relegation places despite earning a 1-1 draw at in-form Blackpool.

Mike Sheron gave the LDV Vans Trophy winners the lead on 62 minutes at Bloomfield Road before Aaron Wilbraham equalised with 16 minutes left for The Hatters, who are a point from safety in the table.

Tranmere Rovers finished off a good week of home results with a 4-0 thumping of struggling Notts County at Prenton Park.

A brace each for Eugene Dadi - one a penalty - and Iain Hume keeps The Magpies four points adrift in the bottom four.

Wycombe Wanderers scored a late goal to earn a 3-2 away win at Oldham Athletic.

Paul Murray put The Latics in front on 18 minutes before Nathan Tyson scored the first of his two five minutes later.

Tyson made it 2-1 to The Chairboys three minutes before the break but two minutes later, John Eyre made it 2-2 at the break.

With two minutes left in the match, Tony Adams' side took the win when Craig Faulconbridge scored Wycombe's dramatic late winner.

Finally, an eight-goal thriller at Saltergate saw strugglers Chesterfield and Grimsby Town draw 4-4.

The Spireites got goals from Glynn Hurst (19) and a David Reeves hat-trick - two of them being from the penalty spot late on.

However, Iain Anderson (35), Jamie Lawrence (42), Darren Barnard (86) and new signing Isaiah Rankin (87) replied with goals for The Mariners.

Both sides had a man sent off as well - Chesterfield's Mark Innes going for two bookable offences while Grimsby's Darren Mansaram was sent off for foul and abusive language.

The draw could not prevent Nicky Law's side falling into the relegation zone, with Grimsby now fourth from bottom in the table.
