Duguid denies cheat allegation

Colchester captain Kevin Duguid has hit back at claims that he cheated against Southend.

Colchester captain Kevin Duguid has hit back at claims that he conned the referee against Southend to get Kevin Maher sent off.

Maher was dismissed after Duguid went down clutching his face following an off-the-ball incident, and Colchester went on to win the game 3-0.

The Southend midfielder called Duguid's reaction "embarrassing" and has appealed to the FA against the dismissal.

However, Duguid has insisted that he would never cheat and argued that video replays can prove his innocence.

"In my mind, the incident has been blown out of all proportion and on the TV evidence, you can see there aren't any real grounds for an appeal," he told Colchester's official website.

"Their player knows what he's done and after the match has come out to say what he thinks.

"It's disappointing to be called a cheat and, although there have been sending-offs where I have been involved over the years, I've never deliberately got a player sent off."
