Cardiff keep tabs on Jones

Cardiff City are chasing Crewe Alexandra's highly-rated teenager Billy Jones.

Cardiff City are chasing Crewe Alexandra's highly-rated teenager Billy Jones.

The versatile 19-year-old has been made available for transfer by Crewe after rejecting a new deal at Gresty Road.

With Jones' contract expiring at the end of the season, Dario Gradi is hoping to cash in on the player when the January transfer window reopens.

Premiership side Manchester City have been linked with a bid for the defender/midfielder, with Stuart Pearce monitoring the situation.

But Crewe's assistant manager Neil Baker has revealed Championship table-toppers Cardiff are the only club to have registered an interest in Jones at this stage.

"We have had no enquiries apart from Cardiff and that's been ongoing," said Baker.

"They've been watching him, but there's been no bid."
