Jones: No Chopra offers

Dave Jones says Cardiff have received no bids for last term's top scorer Michael Chopra.

Dave Jones says Cardiff City have received no offers for last season's top scorer Michael Chopra.

The striker was tipped to be a target for Premier League clubs after rattling in 22 goals in the Championship last term.

Cardiff accept every player has his price, but Ninian Park boss Jones admits there is no pressure to cash in on the former Newcastle United trainee.

"It's no good saying you won't sell," Jones told Sky Sports News. "If a Premiership club comes in for your players and you're in the Championship, how do you keep hold of them?

"If they match our price, likes clubs have done in the past, we will see whether it's a worthwhile offer to look at and make a decision.

"No one has been in for Chops. We want to keep him and he is looking forward to the start of the season.

"If they do, and match what we think he's worth, and we can move in other areas, but at the moment we're looking forward to working with him and getting the season up and running."

Jones admits there has been interest from top-flight clubs in other members of the Cardiff squad, with the likes of Chris Gunter having been linked with Everton.

"It's important that we keep everybody," added Jones. "We didn't have the biggest squad last season.

"We have had one or two offers for some of our younger players from Premiership clubs, but the difference is we don't have to sell.

"The club is going forward and we want to keep our best players. Everybody does have a price, and if somebody matches that and it enables us to move in another direction, then we'll do it, but at the moment we want to keep all our best players."
