PILGRIMS LAND IN TOP SPOT

PLYMOUTH ARGYLE sailed to the top of Division Three on goal difference after their 2-0 win over Lincoln, while Rochdale were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Cheltenham Town.

Paul Sturrock's side continue their impressive start to the season and helped themselves to a 2-0 win at Home Park thanks to goals from David Friio and Graham Coughlan.

The Pilgrims's result means that they are top on goal difference due to ten-man Rochdale drawing 2-2 at Spotland with Cheltenahm. Paul Wheatcroft scored and got sent off while Kevin Towson grabbed the second but a brace from Jamie Victory grabbed appoint for the visitors.

Halifax slipped to the bottom after their 4-2 defeat against Luton, who are just a point off the lead in third place. Two goals from Dean Crowe and two late goals from Kevin Nicholls and Adrian Forbes did the damage for The Hatters while Paul Harsley and Ian Fitzpatrick hit the back of the net for the hosts.

Hartlepool lifted themselves off the bottom of the table with a 1-0 win away at Macclesfield with a goal from Adam Boyd despite going down to ten men after the dismissal of Jamie Sharp.

Exeter City also grabbed a much-needed win at home to Bristol Rovers with Geoff Breslan's strike enough to secure the win over Gerry Francis's side.

Kidderminster recorded an impressive 4-1 win at home to York City with two from Drewe Broughton and one each from Abdou Sall and Ian Foster enough to beat The Minstermen, who scored through Lee Nogan.

Swansea also grabbed three vital points near the foot of the table as they secured a 2-0 win over high-flying Darlington thanks to two goals in two minutes from Nick Cusack and Nathan Tyson.

Hull stay in touch with the leaders despite being held at home to Leyton Orient. Gary Alexander opened the scoring but Justin Whittle's last minute own goal gave Orient a point.

Mansfield capitalised on Torquay's Sean Hankin being sent off by scoring twice through Chris Greenacre and Wayne Corden to secure a 2-0 win and Field Mill.

Oxford's Jamie Brooks earned a point for The U's against Carlisle after he equalised a strike from David Rogers.

Shrewsbury went down to a 2-0 defeat against Rushden and Diamonds at Gay Meadow, with Gary Setchell and Duane Darby grabbed the goals for Rushden.

Scunthorpe enjoyed a 2-0 win over Southend at Glanford Park thanks to goals from Martin Carruthers and Peter Beagrie.
