Clinton on target in Eagles win

Clinton Morrison grabbed his first goal since returning to Crystal Palace in a 2-0 win.

Clinton Morrison grabbed his first goal since returning to Selhurst Park as Crystal Palace made it three league wins on the spin with a 2-0 victory over Hull.

Morrison opened Palace's account with a close-range strike on 26 minutes, while the prolific Andy Johnson made sure of the points with a second in the closing moments.

Palace boss Iain Dowie chose to start with a three-pronged attack of Jonathan Macken, Morrison and Johnson and The Eagles looked lively up front from the start.

Macken put an early header over, but the hosts had a scare at the other end when goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly made an ill-advised charge from his goal and left Roland Edge with a chance, but he could not find the target.

The visitors went closer still when Nicky Barmby, having latched on to a loose ball on the edge of the box, saw an effort crash back off the bar.

However, it was Palace who made the breakthrough midway through the half; Tom Soares evaded a couple of challenges as he made his way to the by-line and pulled back the perfect ball for Morrison who was left with the easy task of slotting home.

Morrison had the chance to claim his second before the break put could get no power on a goal-bound volley.

The hosts continued to do most of the pressing after the break and Macken saw an attempt go narrowly wide, while an inviting Michael Hughes cross somehow avoided Johnson and Morrison.

Morrison was eventually replaced with 15 minutes remaining and received a warm ovation.

Any lingering Palace nerves were settled a minute from time when Johnson capped a typically industrious display with a deserved goal, skipping clear before coolly slotting past Boaz Myhill.
