Darren Bent struck to rob Forest of all three points at the City Ground.
Darren Bent bundled in a second half equaliser to earn Ipswich a 1-1 draw at the City Ground and deny Nottingham Forest a victory they richly deserved.
The young Ipswich striker knew little about his strike, as Jason de Vos flicked on Tommy Miller's corner and the ball struck him and flew into the Forest net.
The goal was the result of a rare attacking foray for the visitors, who were on the back foot for much of the evening, and Forest will reflect on the fact that luck deserted them when it mattered.
Three times the home side struck the woodwork as they dominated the second half without adding to Paul Evans' solitary strike before the break.
Evans was on hand to smash in the rebound after Gareth Taylor had nodded the ball down to David Johnson, and the former Ipswich man swivelled and fired in a shot which was too hot for Kelvin Davis to handle.
Bent had earlier gone close with Ipswich's best chance of the half, a 30-yard drive that fizzed only inches wide, but Joe Royle's men struggled to cope with the flair of Andy Reid, and the young Irishman crossed for Taylor, whose header brought a fine save from Davis.
Davis then denied Johnson as he raced through the centre and tried to lift a header over the Ipswich keeper, before full back Matthieu Louis-Jean curled a 20-yarder just past the post.
Forest were to get closer without scoring after the break, first through Reid, who cracked a dipping volley against the underside of the crossbar from the edge of the area.
Johnson then couldn't believe his luck as his header from three yards smacked against the post, before Taylor repeated the trick from the same position. In between, another Reid volley was superbly pushed over by Davis.
Evans shot wide from 30 yards as Forest chased a late winner but in the end they were to be frustrated, although they were able to extend Joe Kinnear's fine run as manager to just two defeats from 19 games.
