Clarets pick up points

Burnley picked up an important 2-0 victory against Coventry.

Burnley picked up an important 2-0 victory against Coventry on their visit to Highfield Road.

A match between two teams desperate to end poor recent spells saw Burnley defend well against early dominance from their hosts, and snatch victory through goals from John Oster and Ian Moore.

Brian Jensen did well to save from former Claret Dele Adebola as Coventry started brightly, and also got his hands on a Christian Negouai effort soon after.

Gary McSheffrey had several shots from range, but only forced one save out of Jensen.

After the break, Burnley came out the stronger and took the lead when a wonderful Tony Grant through ball gave Oster the opportunity to fire over the onrushing Luke Steele.

Soon after a scrappy goal put the visitors two up, and sealed their victory.

Steele, on loan from Manchester United, was caught in no-man's-land, and after several players threw themselves at the ball, Moore was on hand to inch the ball over the line.

Burnley soaked up the rest of the pressure to claim the win - and inflict a fifth successive defeat on Coventry.
