Elie emerges as City target

ELIE KROUPI has emerged as a target for Leicester City manager Dave Bassett although the Foxes boss faces the familiar problem of raising funds to finance the deal.

The Lorient forward could be set to follow Ulrich Le Pen, who joined Ipswich Town, in moving to England if Bassett can follow up his initial interest with a firm offer to the Breton club.

After arriving from Rennes about a year and a half ago, the Ivory Coast attacker may not be the biggest of hit-men but has plenty of pace, and is trying to force his way into the Lorient side.

A regular substitute, he has scored twice in four starts this term, but has come off the bench on 11 more occasions.

Admittedly, Kroupi has been unable to match last season's exploits in the French Second Division, when he bagged 15 goals in 33 games.
