Tykes end McSwegan interest

BARNSLEY have decided against offering Scottish striker Gary McSwegan a new deal with the club.

The Dundee United forward has been at Oakwell since the end of November and agreed to a loan deal following a brief trial, before making five appearances for the first team.

However, Tykes boss Steve Parkin will not keep him at the club, even though strikers Isaiah Rankin and Lee Jones picked up injuries in the recent reserve clash with Wolves.

Parkin is still on the look-out for a new striker, despite his side rediscovering their goal touch, and he could be poised for a fresh raid on his former club Rochdale.

He has already taken Gary Jones with him across the Pennines, and it is understood the highly-rated Kevin Townson and Clive Platt are both on his shopping list and could also make the switch to South Yorkshire.
