Wroe earns Tykes deal

Barnsley midfielder Nicky Wroe has signed his first professional contract.

Barnsley midfielder Nicky Wroe has signed his first professional contract with the League One club.

The 19-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at Oakwell until the summer of 2007 after breaking into Paul Hart's first team this season.

Wroe has made 20 appearances for The Tykes this term, despite only being a third-year scholar.

The youngster's performances, however, have prompted the South Yorkshire side to hand him his first professional deal.

"I am delighted to acquire Nicky's signature and hope that, as a player, he will go on to fulfill his potential," Hart told the club's official website.

"This will also give every one of our young players at Oakwell the encouragement to continue their progress because if they do well, then they will be promoted through the ranks."
