Tykes trial for Lucas

Barnsley have taken former Sheffield Wednesday keeper David Lucas on trial.

Barnsley have taken former Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper David Lucas on trial.

Tykes boss Andy Ritchie is keen to add another keeper to his squad following Vito Mannone's return to Arsenal.

Lucas will spend the rest of the week training with Barnsley in an effort to earn a deal with the club.

The 29-year-old would be available on a free transfer as he left The Owls during the summer and is currently a free agent, and Ritchie is hoping to give him every opportunity to impress.

"David has come in and will train with us this week," Ritchie told Barnsley's official website.

"Hopefully, if things go well, we may try to get him into a reserve-team game."
