Bristol City have reluctantly accepted goalkeeper Steve Phillips's transfer request.Bristol City have reluctantly accepted goalkeeper Steve Phillips's request for his name to be made available for transfer.
The 27-year-old, now in his testimonial year with the West Country club, has made the request after losing the number one jersey to Brazilian custodian Adriano Basso.
With the January transfer window now open, the former Paulton Rovers keeper is keen to find more first-team action by moving away from Ashton Gate.
Robins boss Gary Johnson was disappointed with Phillips's decision and is unsure if a club will come in for during the month.
"While I am disappointed by Steve's reaction, I can understand the point of view of any senior professional who wants regular first-team football," Phillips told the club's official website.
"He came to see me and we are circulating his name at his own request.
"Whether the right move materialises, only time will tell."
The news comes as defender Marc Joseph has returned to parent club Hull City after Johnson opted against keeping the former Cambridge United and Peterborough United player.
Left back Craig Woodman, meanwhile, has returned to City after a second loan spell at Torquay United.
