Hatters hand deals to duo

Luton have handed new contracts to youngsters Leon Barnett and Keith Keane.

Luton Town have confirmed they have extended the deals of young first team members Leon Barnett and Keith Keane.

The Hatters have enjoyed their Championship campaign after winning League One last season, and with little to play for in the league they have begun to cast an eye towards the future by tying down two up-and-coming youngsters.

Both players originally signed professional deals in September 2004 and central defender Barnett has extended his agreement until 2009, with Keane signing on until 2008.

20-year-old Barnett has proved an adequate understudy to the first choice defensive pairing of Markus Heikkinen and Chris Coyne this season, and Hatters boss Mike Newell is hoping he can have the same impact at Kenilworth Road as West Brom's Curtis Davies.

Republic of Ireland Under-21 international Keane has also been a fringe member of Newell's squad, but has been in and around the first XI for three seasons despite being just 19.

The Bedfordshire side have also confirmed that fellow young Hatter Calvin Andrew has returned to Kenilworth Road after terminating his loan spell with Bristol Rovers due to injury.
