Robins snap up Showunmi

Bristol City have signed striker Enoch Showunmi on a free transfer from Luton Town.

Bristol City have followed the arrival of defender Liam Fontaine with the signing of striker Enoch Showunmi from Luton Town.

The Nigeria international has signed a two-year contract with the League One club after moving to Ashton Gate on a free transfer.

He leaves Kenilworth Road after starting his Football League career with the Bedfordshire outfit back in September 2003.

Robins boss Gary Johnson was delighted to secure the services of both Showunmi and Fontaine for next season.

"Enoch will give us another option in attack. He is quick for a big lad and his physique alone makes him a handful," Johnson told the club's official website.

"He is still raw because he entered League football relatively late at the age of 21, but there is ability to work with.

"Liam did very well for us on loan last season and we now also have a lot of competition for places in central defence, with Louis Carey, Matt Heywood, Richard Keogh and Jamie McCombe in contention."

Meanwhile, winger Luke Wilkshire made club history on Monday by becoming the first Bristol City player to play in a World Cup finals, as his Australia faced Japan in Group F.
