Heikkinen blow for Luton

Luton defender Markus Heikkinen faces a spell on the sidelines after breaking his leg.

Luton defender Markus Heikkinen faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after breaking his leg against Birmingham.

The Finnish international picked up the injury during the 2-2 draw at St Andrews on Friday night.

Heikkinen suffered the injury after a late challenge by Birmingham midfielder Fabrice Muamba and he had to be stretchered off the pitch.

The former Aberdeen man was taken to hospital on Friday night and it is feared he suffered a broken leg.

Luton boss Mike Newell admitted the injury looked serious for Heikkinen.

"Markus has got a serious injury," Newell told Sky Sports.

"The Birmingham doctor has told us it is a fracture of the fibula and they think it is a compound fracture.

"That is serious enough and it is hard for the lad."
