Lions slip to bottom after draw

Millwall slipped to the bottom of The Championship with a 1-1 draw at home to Plymouth.

Millwall slipped to the bottom of The Championship with a 1-1 draw at home to Plymouth.

The single-point yield may not prove enough for David Tuttle's side who appear doomed to relegation.

Millwall trail fourth-from-bottom Sheffield Wednesday by eight points with just three games left to play.

The Pilgrims were quick to strike at a nerve-wracked Den when Vincent Pericard opened the scoring in the 10th minute - Paul Connolly swung over a corner from the left and Pericard, unmarked, headed home his first goal since scoring a hat-trick against Coventry in February.

The Lions pulled level just after the half-hour mark through Marvin Williams who got to the ball just ahead of goalkeeper Roman Larrieu.

Larrieu was called upon to save from Ben May as the hosts ended the half on top and the second period began in a similar vein, too.

Alan Dunne saw a header saved while the visitors were restricted to long range efforts through Connolly and Akos Buzsaky.

With Millwall's need for the three points obviously the greater the hosts stepped up their efforts to claim a winner but when Marvin Elliott cleared the crossbar with a late header Tuttle must have known the game - and, perhaps, the season - was up.
