Iron make Hayes offer

Scunthorpe United have offered young striker Paul Hayes a new contract.

Scunthorpe United have offered young striker Paul Hayes a new three-year contract with the League Two leaders.

The club's top scorer is one of several Iron players to be out of contract at the season's end, with Championship sides Nottingham Forest and Derby County reported to be monitoring the hit-man's progress.

The Glanford Park outfit have been in negotiations with the 21-year-old and his agent regarding a new deal and Scunthorpe boss Brian Laws is hopeful the goalscorer will extend his stay.

"We are still in negotiations with both Paul and his agent, but I am very hopeful that he will agree to stay with Scunthorpe," Hayes told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

"We are not in a position to force any player to sign new deals, we have to make sure everyone is happy with everything that is being offered.

"Things like this do not fit in place quickly, they can take time, and that is why we want to get things moving now."
