Merson tips Forest

Walsall boss Paul Merson believes Nottingham Forest will be the team to beat.

Walsall boss Paul Merson believes Nottingham Forest will be the team to beat next season.

Forest faced relegation from The Championship last term but Merson has tipped Gary Megson to take them straight back up again at the first attempt.

Merson, who still plays despite his advanced years, believes that League One will be fairly open this year but having heaped praise on Megson, concludes that a good season could be in the offing at The City Ground.

As a dark horse, Merson has tipped Oldham to be at the business end of the table come the season's close.

''In this league everybody beats everybody,'' Merson told Sky Sports News.

''The team that's bottom can give the team at the top a game on their day. That way it's hard.

''There are some good teams. Forest came down and have probably got the best manager in the league.

''That's going to help and they've probably one of the best coaches in the league who I had here in Frank (Burrows).

''I like them and my dark horses are Oldham. They've bought some good players and there will be a couple of good teams who weren't around last year.''

Meanwhile, Oldham have enquired about Rotherham duo Martin Butler and Jamal Campbell-Ryce.
