Nottingham Forest have opened contract talks with midfielder Kris Commons.
Nottingham Forest have opened contract talks with midfielder Kris Commons in a bid to tie him to a new long-term deal.
Commons' current deal expires at the end of the season and the League One leaders are anxious to keep him at the City Ground.
Forest are targeting a return to the Championship next season and manager Colin Calderwood is hopeful Commons will be a part of their success.
"We've spoken with him and he knows the situation," Calderwood told the Evening Post.
"We are professionally going about our job and no stone will be left unturned.
"I'm comfortable with where we are at the moment."
Calderwood admits Commons has the ability to play at a higher level and fully expects the 23-year-old to be plying his trade in the Premiership in the future.
"He's not a League One player," Calderwood added. "He could handle it at a higher level.
"I didn't think I was a Premiership player, but I played there. And he could have an influence on any game."
