Hendry keen on Jones deal

Blackpool boss Colin Hendry wants to extend goalkeeper Lee Jones's contract.

Blackpool manager Colin Hendry says he will look to extend goalkeeper Lee Jones's contract.

The 34-year-old's current deal at Bloomfield Road is due to expire in the summer, having performed well since returning from a hernia injury.

The former Scotland captain intends to have Jones tied down to a new deal in the near future.

"Lee has been excellent and not just over a game or two," Hendry told the club's official website.

"People talk about the end of the season and players playing for contracts, but he has been very, very good.

"I am going to try and tie Jonesy up as soon as possible because he is a good goalkeeper - there's no two ways about it."

Despite being ready to commit to Jones, Hendry is keen to sign another keeper for next season.

"I still need another goalkeeper," Hendry added.

"It's whether you get someone to battle alongside Jonesy, which is what I think you need to do or depending on the budget, you could go for an easier option and get someone who is going to push Lee to keep him on his toes.

"But Lee will be number one goalkeeper."
