LDV Southern round-up

Peterborough defeated higher-league opposition, as Walsall won the all-League One tie.

Peterborough defeated higher-league opposition in the shape of Swindon Town at London Road to send themselves into the third round of the LDV Vans Trophy.

Jamie Hand's first goal for the club and a 55th minute penalty from Trevor Benjamin (pictured) put Peterborough in command but Christian Roberts' strike (68) made for an edgy final 20 minutes for the home side as they eventually ran-out 2-1 winners.

Struggling Rushden & Diamonds were thrashed by Swansea at The Liberty Stadium.

An Andy Robinson brace (20 & 65), along with Garry Monk's first for the club (76) and Paul Connor's late strike sent the Swans through comfortably.

It took penalties to split Gillingham and Wycombe Wanderers, the latter going through 3-1 on spot kicks after the game had been tied at 2-2 after 120 minutes of action.

Matthew Jarvis (23 & 27) and Charlie Griffin (39 & pen 42) both scored goals within minutes of each other to send the game into extra time where the teams couldn't be separated.

League One side Milton Keynes Dons eased passed Barnet 3-0 in their game at Underhill.

Aaron Wilbraham put the away side in command early (9) before goals from Wade Small (39) and Gary Smith (88) sealed the victory.

The only all-League One tie was won by Walsall thanks to Matt Fryatt's strike mid-way through the second half, the Saddlers defeating Bournemouth 1-0.

The game between Woking and Cheltenham Town was abandoned 15 minutes into the second half due to dense fog, with Cheltenham leading 2-1.
