League Two round-up

Carlisle United hammered hapless Boston 5-0 at York Street on Wednesday night.

The Pilgrims once had the opportunity to sign United striker Karl Hawley after having him on trial and how they must be rueing their decision not to after he led the United defence a merry dance.

The former Walsall marksman opened the scoring after 12 minutes, drilling the ball home from 12 yards out, before former Leeds United striker Michael Bridges (56, 63) sent the travelling Cumbrians into rapture with a second-half brace.

There was a great deal of confusion over a free kick by Bridges that was deflected into the net with the goal originally credited to Hawley. However, Bridges was confirmed as the scorer - meaning it was he who got the matchball.

Hawley did get a brace, after dancing through a mesmerised Pilgrims defence and seeing his scruffy finish end up in the corner of the net.

The victory lifts Paul Simpson's side into second place behind Wycombe Wanderers and leaves them just one point from the summit of League Two.
