Cumbrians slip at Moss Rose

Carlisle missed the chance to go top of League Two, going down 3-0 to Macclesfield.

Lowly Macclesfield Town turned the tables on high-flying Carlisle on Sunday, hammering them 3-0 at Moss Rose.

The Silkmen are currently in the midst of a cash crisis and were recently forced to offload star striker Jon Parkin to Nottingham Forest.

But they showed little sign of missing their former hero, with defender Danny Swailes putting them ahead with just six minutes of the game gone.

Former Barrow Town midfielder Kevin McIntyre doubled the lead four minutes later before Dan Whitaker sent The Cumbrians into half-time facing a three-goal deficit thanks to his 42nd minute effort.

The victory sees Macclesfield overtake Mansfield and Oxford in moving up into 17th place, while Carlisle remain two points behind leaders Wycombe Wanderers.
